Basketball: APR, Patriots face-off in Rwanda Cup semis

Wednesday, August 7 Semi-finals REG Vs Espoir 6pm APR Vs Patriots 8:30 pm Local basketball giants, APR and Patriots, will tussle it out in the semi-finals of the Rwanda Cup on Wednesday, August 7, at Lycee de Kigali Gymnasium. The last meeting between the two clubs was in March during the first round of the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). During the match, American point guard William Perry scored 24 points for the Patriots while Rwandan forwards Dieudonné Ndizeye and Steven Hagumintwari also starred with 24 and 18 points respectively. The two teams are now meeting again, but with a number of new changes, specifically on APR’s side. The army team has introduced new players including Aliou Diarra, 22, a Malian center who joined from Moroccan giants FUS Rabat. Meanwhile, in another semi-final battle, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will face Espoir. The winners of the Rwanda Cup will earn a ticket to compete in the forthcoming East Africa Cup.
