Legendary singer Abdul Makanyaga is set to entertain fans with a live performance at the ongoing Iwacu Muzika Festival 2021 scheduled for today, September 18. The virtual event take place at Kigali Arena and, as usual, will be broadcast live on Rwanda Television at 8:45pm. Makanyaga, 73, is a Rwandan old school musician mostly known as “karahanyuze” who has been doing music for over 40 years. . He studied music at Centre de Formation de Music in Nyamirambo before embarking on a singing career in 1967 at the age of 20. Abdul Makanyaga told The New Times that he is happy to share with Rwandans good music during his performance at the festival. “ I am happy to be entertaining music lovers again as it is always happiness and joy performing my music. I have been performing at different weddings lately although not as much as I used to before the pandemic. “I am working on new songs that I plan on releasing at the end of this year. I have as well been working on a concert that will be celebrating 50 years in music,” Makanyaga said. He will headline the festival, following previous performances by Platini who opened the festival on June 26, RDF Military Band, Mani Martin, Cyusa Ibrahim, Peace Jolis and Naason Solist and Edouce Softman, Bruce Melodie, Israel Mbonyi, a double experience with Bushali and Bluestone, Yverry, Marina and Mbanda who performed last Saturday after their performance was postponed and replaced with late Jay Polly tribute show. Iwacu Muzika Festival, which seeks to promote the Rwandan music industry bringing together different artistes in their age brackets on the same stage, is organised by East African Promoters, in partnership with the ministry of Youth and Culture, Tembera u Rwanda, RBA, among others.
