The hosts advanced to the round of last eight on Thursday evening after dominating Burkina Faso in straight sets 25-14, 25-20 and 25-16 to register their second victory in the competition. In the effortless victory over the Burkinabes, left-attacker Yves Mutabazi was named the man of the match after contributing 20 points, while captain Lawrence Yakan Guma and Patrick Kavalo Akumuntu added 14 and 7 points, respectively. Uganda also booked a quarter-final spot on Thursday after easing past Burundi in three sets 25-18, 25-15 and 25-18 to claim maximum points in two straight games, having beaten Burkina Faso in their first game on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Women’s Volleyball African Nations Champions starts on Sunday, September 12, in Kigali, and will concurrently run with their men’s counterparts until the latter’s finals on September 16. The women’s tournament will climax on September 20. Rwanda is the first country to host the two competitions at the same time.
