AS Kigali women football Club have been granted special permission to resume training sessions as they gear up for the upcoming 2021/22 women football league season slated to start November 1. The City of Kigali sponsored side will train at Kigali Stadium and all players and non-playing staff have already been tested for Covid-19. The development comes after various sporting activities, including football, were given a green light by the Ministry of Sports to resume. Each team that will participate in the top flight women football league will be given Rwf3m while teams participating in the second division will receive Rwf1.5m each to be able to cope with covid-19 preventive activities when the league resumes. All games will be played under strict guidelines approved by the Ministry of Sports. Action will be taken against teams that fail to abide by the preventive guidelines. Ten teams are expected to participate in this year’s league. They will play one-leg matches between them and the top five on the table will play two-legged matches between them. The top team will be crowned champions and will represent Rwanda in the CAF women Champions League next season. Scandinavia are defending champions having won the 2018/19 league title while the 2019/20 league was cancelled as a result of Covid-19.
