De Tarso drops 27 players ahead of African nations tourney

The national volleyball team head coach Paulo de Tarso has dropped 27 players from the provisional squads of the women and men’s teams preparing for the 2021 African nations’ Championships. The women’s competition will take place between September 5 to 15, while the men’s fray will get underway from September 10-20 in Kigali. The released players from the men’s team are: Irené Jacob Cyusa, Jean Paul Sibomana, Alphonse Nizeyimana, Gloire Niyonkuru, Sadru Manzi, Jules Niyigena, Emmy Twagirayezu, Vincent Mbonigaba, Peacemaker Twagirayezu, Jean Baptiste Tuyizere, Venuste Gatsinzi,Olivier Ntagengwa, Fils Habanzintwali, Fred Muvunyi, Eric Kwizera, Roméo Ngabo and Felix Niyomugabo. Those dropped from the women’s team are: Lea Uwera, Belise Irakoze, Diane Mpuhwezimana, Judith Kabatesi, Jolie Mukazi, Beatrice Uwamahoro, Fillette Uzamukunda, Kellia Umutoni, Marie Paule Umutesi and Yvonne Bayija. The rest of the players will embark on intensive preparations ahead of the games. This year’s championship will bring together 20 countries to compete in the men’s category, while 15 countries will be represented in the women’s competitio. Participating nations include Rwanda, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, South Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia Kenya and Senegal will compete in Kigali for CAVB Volleyball Nation’s Championships. The winner from each category will book a ticket to the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World championship slated from August 26 to September 11, 2022 in Russia.
