Ostrich Rumasha is the winner of ‘My rap journey’ music competition. With the aim of recognising talented rappers, ‘My rap journey’ converged for both the finals and the launching of Sunday Love Media Entertainment label on Friday, August, 6. Initially, 46 talented rappers turned up for the virtual auditions, but in the end, the judges and social media votes picked only five for the grand finale. Sunday Justin Nzitatira, Chief executive officer of Sunday Love Media Entertainment, in a press conference on Friday 6, August said that the competition which began in July was to be carried in three phases, with the first phase involving taking a one-minute video of an artist singing a song of their choice and the video uploaded on Sunday Love Media Entertainment social media. During this phase 46 rappers attended. On July 20, the second phase was conducted virtually where 11 rappers, Ostrich Rumasha, Madaggy, De Nyamirambo, Elogne, Mervine, Rooster, Yassin, Ivo the street, Jaakbona, Vita dOr, and Snowz. Nzitatira were chosen, instead of 10. In the end, Ostrich Rumasha, real name Jean Bosco Mugabowintwali, who has been in the music industry since 2010, won the competition which brought together more than 46 rappers including girls and boys. He went home with a check of Rwf100, 000, and signed a three-year contract with Sunday Love Media Entertainment. Speaking to The New Times, Rumasha said that he was encouraged by his friends to join the competition and that he has a lot of music projects in the studio, which he hopes that the Label will help him release. To me, this is the beginning. Its exciting and its a source of pride, and more energy for my future endeavors. Im ready to use my craft that is very different from what it used to be and keep up with the latest trends. I hope to address social challenges that are common among youths and do good music in these three years and more. Nzitatira told the media that he is committed to investing in music to contribute to the development of Rwandan music especially in the Hip Hop genre as it is the most trending style nowadays. This is a good time to help artists, as many of them are dealing with the effects of Covid-19. I am not only a good fan of Rwandan music but also I am willing to strive to develop talented artists whether in good times and bad,’’ he said. Being in a difficult situation doesnt cover their talents, we will recognize and support them until it goes well. Covid-19 is there but we dont want to make excuses for it, he added. Nzitatira also said that after recognizing a unique talent in Zawadi Mukamwiza, he wanted to support her as a new artist, through their label. Mukamwiza, who also known as, Mwiza, who is currently pursuing her studies at Nyundo School of Music is a gospel singer who joined the Label after her gift was praised by many, including Nzitatira, after watching interviews with various media outlets. She told this publication that she has not released a single song, but she has been the subject of numerous interviews with the media, and that after signing the three-year contract, she is going to make good use of it. Nzitatira said his label will prioritize complementing the artists for the development of both sides and that this is the beginning and an ongoing activity, which will offer guidance to these artists by making both audios and visuals and promoting them locally and internationally.
