NORTHERN PROVINCE Musanze — The Higher Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry-ISAE Busogo Students General Association (AGE) has elected a new guild council for the 2009 academic year. Erimax Kayiranga was elected unopposed as the guild president along with two other members Calixte Kalisa for vice president , and Philoza Mukiza for General Secretary. The three will form the executive committee of the guild. The guild committee had only two women elected Amata Nshuti and Philose Mukiza out of 11 posts contested. The women office holders won the posts of Gender advocacy and General Secretary respectively. The new guild council was sworn in last Wednesday during the function which was attended by the University Rector Dr. Charles Karemangingo and Hon. Pelagie Rutijanwa (MP for the Youth) as well as students from other universities. The new guild president pledged to advocate for instituting a favourable learning atmosphere in the university amidst cheers from students who complained that certain rules have subjected many to repeat during the course of 2009 academic year. He added that as a mouthpiece for the students, issues to do with the bursary, accommodation and related concerns would be put high on the agenda of the guild council. The University Rector congratulated the students for exercising the elections smoothly which he termed transparent and democratic. He further added that as the institution undertakes to effect changes in academic and financial fields, adding that professionalism was required to make the institution a cornerstone for agricultural transformation in the country. During the occasion 11 members of the outgoing students guild council were awarded “students guild certificate of merit.” Ends
