Amavubi captain Haruna Niyonzina has rejoined Rwanda premier league side AS Kigali on a one-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2021/22 season. Francis Gasana, AS Kigali Secretary General, confirmed the transfer to Times Sport on Friday saying that it is a good addition for the club ahead of Caf Confederation Cup and the upcoming season. Two weeks ago, Tanzanian side Yanga held a guard of honor for the midfielder as a ‘thank you’ gesture after 8 years’ service that the midfielder had at the Tanzania giant. The veteran playmaker will wear shirt number 8 at AS Kigali. Haruna made history in June as he became the first player to win the Tanzania Premier League title in five consecutive seasons, having won it three times in a row with Young Africans, between 2015 and 2017, before helping Simba SC to lift the title for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. Niyonzima started his football career with Etincelles before he was signed by Rayon Sports in 2006, one year later he joined archrivals APR where he played for three-and-a-half years prior to his 2011 move to Yanga.
