Up-and-coming artiste Joel Rumata, commonly known by his stage name as Joel Ruti, has announced that he is working on his debut album dubbed ‘Rumata’ this year. This comes after the singer on Friday, July 23, released a brand new single ‘Rumata’, which is so far Ruti’s third release on the 10-song album after ‘Igikobwa’ and ‘Rasana’. The songs audio was produced by producer Madebeats while the video was directed by Bernard Bagenzi. Ruti said he chose to name his new song and debut album after his last name ‘Rumata’ to define the connection between him and music. “This is the real me and that is the way I want to introduce myself to the music industry and let people know me well enough as Rumata, who will forever stick with them,” he told The New Times in a telephone interview adding that he is yet to decide when exactly the album with be out. After releasing ‘Rumata, the singer revealed that he wants to drop the album’s songs one by one to let people get enough time to listen to each of the songs and discover the real picture of his music before the album comes out. ‘Rumata’’, Ruti described it as a love song and a definition of the relationship he has with his music audience. “It is a love song which encourages couples to stick together,” he explained. While the new music generation mostly grows its career in R&B, Hip Hop, Dance Hall, Afro Beat or Trap music, Ruti explained that he is bent towards the Traditional Genre of music which takes roots from his family from which the likes of Jules Sentore, his brother, and Intore Masamba hail. “I am attached to Rwanda’s traditional culture and I wanted to stay in that lane of tradition and add some kind of modernity while sticking to my identity,” he said. He emphasized that Traditional is not about the genre, instead the person since it all starts from within. Ruti, who is signed under Kwanda Music management, is regarded among Rwanda’s fast-rising traditional musicians.
