GROWING UP, Christmas Ruth Kanoheri had always enjoyed singing in Sunday school choir. In 2016, she joined Nyundo School of Arts and Music, where she developed her singing talent and later in January, 2021 ventured into music production. “When I first joined the competition to pass in Nyundo school of Arts and Music, I found many amazing singers and I was afraid but I realised that I was allowed to show any talent, so I decided to play piano and sing a little bit. All the judges were amazed and that’s where my journey in music begun,’’ she says. The artiste shared that she ventured in music production, inspired by the love of music and she loved the idea of being the first local female producer. “I’ve always wanted to make something different, all my life I wanted to be a female producer. I used to visit production houses and had conversations with other producers and many appreciated my works which gave me the courage to go on,’’ she recalls. Currently the singer is working with Capital records where she does her productions and other artistes’ audios which will be released soon. The Rwandan female producer and singer Kanoheri, also known as Chrisy Neat has released a new song titled ‘Ikibondo’ in which she emphasizes unconditional parent’s love towards their children. “When I mentioned Ikibondo (baby) many think it’s a baby or just young child but parent’s love doesn’t know age, they will always see you as a baby that they need to take care of,’’ The singer told The New Times. ‘Ikibondo’ is Chrisy Neat’s second record after she joined the industry. Both the video and audio of the song were released on July, 12. The singer told this publication that she recorded the song herself and did the audio and the sound productions, while the video was shot in Kigali. Her first song was dubbed ‘You are’ which was released in March, this year. When asked what inspired the song, the singer says that she was inspired by the love of her mother towards her. “One day after work my one-year-old child would run to my laptop trying to disturb me but all I could feel was the love I had for her. I then went straight to record the song but then she reminded me of myself. Growing up and joining my career, my mother encouraged and supported me in every way. I didn’t understand her unconditional love towards me until I become a mother too,’’ the singer says. Whoever like other startups Kanoheri faced different challenges. “The first challenge was starting up in the middle of the pandemic, it was hard to find investment. Another challenge is people don’t understand how a female can do music productions, yet we can do better,’’ she said. Chrisy Neat is also one of the members of Nep Queens Band.
