Zigama Credit and Savings Society (CSS) a microfinance institution, has revealed that it earned 50 percent profit last year the earned According to, Brig. Gen. Geoffrey Byegeka, the Director General of Zigama the credit scheme made Rwf1.4bn last year as compared to Rwf400m in 2005. Byegeka said this at the Ministry of Defence in Kimuhurura when presenting last year’s report on Zigama’s Financial Statement. Zigama CSS started as a cooperative in 1997. It is comprised of the army and police forces. Over a period of eleven years it has spread its tentacles across the country. Byegeka says they have also attracted the civilian population. He also divulged that in 11 years the credit scheme’s assets have rapidly grown. “As a microfinance scheme we have rapidly grown and currently have assets worth Rwf34bn,” he revealed.
