301 Enroll for the 4th Police Cadet Course Course

33 women enrolled NORTHERN PROVINCE Musanze — The fourth Cadet Course intake was officially opened last Friday, with 301 police at the ranks of sergeant, chief sergeant and new graduate entrants being enrolled at the National Police Academy in Ruhengeri, Musanze district. The Acting Commissioner General of Police Mary Gahonzire, presided over the inaugural ceremony of what was dubbed a ‘special police cadet course’. In her remarks the Commissioner General said that the training will help increase knowledge to deal with the changing nature of dispensing police duties in the country. She said that the training will enable the recruits to work in partnership with the communities to enable them to be accountable to the society they are expected to serve by safeguarding the human rights of all people, protecting every one and their property. The cadet course which lasts for 12 months will be conducted in three broad phases. It will involve leadership and management, UN peace support operations principles and concepts and crime prevention strategies. The Commissioner General further called upon young professionals to join the police force in order to deal with the scientific and changing faces of police duties especially cyber crimes, cross border criminality, rape and defilement which are becoming sophisticated. The Commandant of National Police Academy, Assistant Commissioner of Police Charles Shema said that, considering the course content, cadet officers will at the end of the course be able to execute their duties effectively. The criteria of selection hinged on the level of qualification, rank hierarchy, discipline and an exam which recruits were to expected to attain certain passes. Ends
