Monday, June 28 Etincelles 3-1 Musanze FC Gorilla FC 2-1 Sunrise Mukura 4-1 AS Muhanga Gasogi United 1-0 Kiyovu SC AS Muhanga and Sunrise FC have been relegated into the second division following a disappointing league season which concluded on Monday, June 28. AS Muhanga came into the last matchday game against Mukura VS fighting for nothing as they were already relegated following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Gasogi United on Friday, June 25. Mukura VS, who were also at risk of being relegated, used their home advantage well and beat the Muhanga side 4-1 to send their Southern-Province rivals packing without a win nor a single point from the last seven fixtures. The last matchday was a highly-anticipated for football fans as five teams namely Mukura VS, Etincelles FC, Sunrise FC, Gasogi United and Gorilla FC went into their respective games fighting to avoid relegation and join Muhanga who were already sent in the second division prior to their game. It was Sunrise FC who finally joined Muhanga in the second division after losing 2-1 against Gorilla FC in a tightly-contested encounter held at Mumena Stadium. A draw would have been enough for the Eastern Province-based club but they failed to hold Gorilla FC and lost the game in the dying minutes of the game. Muhanga FC and Sunrise FC will be replaced by two teams that will be promoted from the second division league which is yet to start. The football governing body (Ferwafa) is yet to decide the dates during which the second division league will be played as they wait for the Ministry of Sports to approve the proposed preventive guidelines under which clubs will be required to comply before they get allowed to play the competition in the covid-19 era.
