Former referee Louis Rurangirwa and Mukura Victory Sports president Olivier Nizeyimana, the two candidates who are in race to become the next president of Rwanda’s football governing body (FERWAFA), have started campaigning for votes today, Saturday, June 19. As the campaign kicks off, the electoral committee, led by Adolphe Kalisa, said candidates can campaign for votes using all channels provided by the Ferwafa electoral rules and regulations but warned them against using negative words about each other as a way to win over the voters’ confidence. “There are rules and regulations governing the elections at Ferwafa that candidates must abide by while campaigning for votes because if they violate them, they risk being disqualified from running for elections,” said Kalisa. “They must show respect for each other and express disciplinary values while campaigning,” he added. Candidates have been granted one week until June 26 to present their manifesto to the football community. Campaigning can be done throughout the media tour or by reaching out to each of the federation members who have the right to vote on the election day, among other channels. A total of 56 members of the federation will be allowed to vote. The winner of the election, which takes place during Ferwafa’s General Assembly slated on June 27, will lead the federation on a four-year term, to replace Brig. Gen (rtd) Jean-Damascene Sekamana – who resigned in April, after he said it was difficult to juggle his personal responsibilities and the demands of administering the federation.
