Police FC secretary-general CP Claudette Umutoni has shed light on Ugandan winger Joackiam Ojera’s omission from the team’s initial squad for the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round against Algerian side CS Constantine. The Peace Cup winners submitted their squad for the continental competition before July 20, a deadline set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) but Ojera’s name is missing on the list despite agreeing to a move to the club. The winger currently plies his trade at Al Mokawloon in the Egyptian Premier League and Umutoni explained that he cannot be included in their team squad until the league concludes in August. That means that he cannot play in the first preliminary round for us in the Confederation Cup, she told the press after Police FC’s 3-0 preseason friendly win over Muhazi United. However, he will play in the final playoffs. He is not in the squad for now because the list we submitted requires a lot of qualifications—as some of you may know it—which means that, while he is still playing for another club, he cannot make it,” she added. Police FC will play the first leg against CS Constantine in Algeria on August 16 in the first preliminary round game before welcoming the Algerians to Kigali Pele Stadium for a second leg match on August 23.
