Impressions: For all you we lost …

15 years down the road yet memories are still fresh as though it were only yesterday. The scars are still visible. It’s a decade and a half but the country can hardly come to terms with what befell it. Much as days, nights and years pass by, you remain in our hearts. The world is still grappling with numbers; some say it was 800.000 while others suggest it was over one million. The most recent research indicates that it was close to 2 million. Relatives and friends are still wondering why it had to be you. Why were you chosen to die in a way so brutal that even the worst of fiends don’t face. Some have since lost faith in the almighty while others are still questioning the existence of God. Orphans are still homeless while widows and widowers still bereave the loss of their loved ones. Others wish they would rather have gone with you. Life has never been the same since you left. Here comes the time we remember you who died so innocent that you did not even have a slight clue on the crime you committed. You, who died because you belonged to a particular ethnic group, something you did not even have a choice in. You were killed, some so innocent and young. Who knew that such a day would come when a human being would be macheted, clobbered or mutilated to death by a fellow human being? Did we even know that some of us would nurse scars of a life time from the wounds inflicted by our own brothers and Sisters? 15 years on you are still fresh in our minds. We still pray and pray that your souls are granted eternal rest and we promise that year in year out, we will always remember you. To you all who died in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, may your souls rest in Eternal Peace. Ends
