Cheikh Sarr, the head coach of the national basketball team has dropped two players from the provisional squad that is gearing for the Women’s Afrobasket qualifiers. Sarr manages both the men and women’s national basketball teams. Since April, the women’s team has been training in preparation for the upcoming Afrobasket qualifiers which are slated to run from July 5 through 10 in Egypt. The players that are currently taking part in the training sessions are 16, after Sarr decided to release Chantal Utamuriza and Diane Uwizeyimana. The duo play for Ubumwe Basketball Club. The team is expected to enter residential camp on Sunday, June 13 at Elevate Hotel in Nyarutarama. On Friday, June 11, the US- based duo of Sifa Joyeuse Ineza (Greenforest College), and Hope Butera (South Georgia Tech College) are expected to arrive in Kigali to join the team. In the same way, Bella Murekatete (Washington State University) and Tierra Hendreson Constanta (Romania) are expected to arrive on June 20. Times Sport understands that Mary Mpoyo, another US-based player (Meridian College) and Oiffa Wibabara from France will not be coming for this stage of the qualifiers.
