EASTERN PROVINCE NGOMA — The Natural Resources Minister, Stanislas Kamanzi, yesterday commissioned a 43 km road that connects Lake Sake to other parts of Ngoma district. The road which was constructed by the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), was funded by the KFW, a German government owned development bank through Community Based Reintegration (CBR), a reconstruction Credit Institute support project that operates under the RDRC. Kamanzi congratulated the work done by RDRC.He urged the local residents to abide by the regulations protecting the resources. The minister urged the project workforce to put their earnings to good use. The road project which cost Rwf. 495,882,000 employed about 1050 people,50% of whom were ex-combatants and demobilised soldiers who earned on average Rwf.1,000 daily. RDRC was set up to ensure that demobilized ex-combatants are socially and economically reintegrated back in to their communities. The reintegration program is designed in such a way that it is meant to foster community participation by the former combatants. Meanwhile CBR on the same day winded up officially its activities in the country. Commencing operations in 2006, CBR as a poverty eradication project in the country has spent Rwf.2.5billion in various projects in the eight districts from the Eastern, Northern and Southern Provinces where it has been operating. The project developed about 180km of road stretch in all eight districts and about 150 hectares of land has been terraced. The project at full deployment had employed 10,000 people. The event that was held in Jarama sector was also attended by Monique Mukaruriza, the Minister in charge of East African Community and Jean Sayinzoga, the RDRC chairman. Ends
