Saturday
Semi-finals results Patriots 46-87 US Monastir Zamalek 89-71 Petro de Luanda
Rwanda's representatives in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) inaugural season, Patriots Basketball Club have been knocked out of the competition after losing 46-87 to Tunisian giants Union Sportive (US) Monastir on Saturday, May 29.
Despite having had a gallant journey all the way from the group stages to the last four, Patriots found it difficult to match the dominance of the Tunisians, whose previous displays had already made a number of people consider them serious title contenders.
On the night, Monastir won every quarter of the game, scoring way much more than Patriots, and showing that they really deserve to be playing the finals.
Monastir's players that made serious impact against Patriots include Omar Abada who scored a high 18 points, and Firas Lhyani and Wael Arakji who added 13 and 11 points.
Patriots bow out with their heads up, after reaching the semifinals, a stage that many may not have anticipated for them.
In the other semi-final game that took place on Saturday, Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek reached the final after outplaying Petro de Luanda, defeating them 89-71.
On Sunday, May 30, the final game will be played between US Monastir and Zamalek, while Patriots will take on Petro de Luanda in a match that will establish the third-best team.
