Being visually impaired didn’t hinder Epimaque Ndayisaba from fulfilling his dream. He has always wanted to preach the gospel through music. He wasn’t born with visual impairment, he struggled with an illness that left him blind at the age of six. He traces his love for music from a young age, having been trained in church. He recalls learning to sing and playing the guitar at his former school in Gatagara. The 35-year-old is an Adventist who sings mostly gospel and wedding songs. He writes his songs based on the message of the gospel of Jesus and his main purpose is to get people to accept Christ as their Lord and Saviour. Ndayisaba currently has three albums that contain 35 songs. Some of these include, “Ndakwemera”, “Umwungeri”, “Si njye Wahera”, “Insinzi”, “Niwe”, “Anyitaho” and so forth. He is a mental health nurse at Gikomero H.C, Gasabo District. When not at work, he gets quiet time to reflect on his life of how far God has brought him, and then he is compelled to write songs that praise and worship Him. The singer is married and a father of one, he loves spending time with his family while away from work. Like any career, it hasn’t been a bed of roses for him, especially financially considering that music requires a lot of money to produce and make videos. He says in the social media era, people love songs with videos, that’s how they can share them. For him, audio songs don’t usually circulate because people love watching an artiste while singing. “So far, I appreciate that regardless of the shortcomings, God has blessed me through it all. It hasn’t been because of my power, but His. I have a purpose in this world to win souls to Christ,” he says. The singer envisions himself staging a big concert that will attract numerous people, as he ministers with his guitar, where many people testify to God’s greatness. Although he was earning some money during wedding performances, Covid-19 hit and changed the situation. He is, however, optimistic that one day the situation will get better and he will get back to it. His songs are on his YouTube channel in his name.
