The Rwandan community in Senegal on Friday, July 19, celebrated the 30th anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation, in an event that praised the country’s progress since 1994.Held in the capital Dakar, the event was attended by over 400 people, including Rwandans, Senegalese government officials, and diplomats.They celebrated good governance and resilience that characterised Rwanda over the three-decade period since the Genocide against the Tutsi.ALSO READ: Rwandan community in Senegal joins locals for community workAt the national level, Liberation Day is observed on July 4. Members of the Rwandan abroad also organise event to celebrate the day in their respective countries of residence.Rwandan ambassador to Senegal Jean Pierre Karabaranga said the Liberation Day celebration in the West African country was an occasion to reflect on the role of transformative leadership in the socioeconomic development of Rwanda.“[Liberation Day] serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the Rwandan people, who, under the exemplary leadership of President Paul Kagame, have rebuilt their nation and continue to strive for excellence,” Karabaranga said.He said the celebrations in Dakar were a testament to the enduring friendship between Rwanda and Senegal.ALSO READ: Senegal erects statue in honour of soldier who died saving RwandansThe celebrations also underscored the importance of historical memory and the shared commitment to building a better world.Senegalese Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Mountaga Diao reaffirmed the strong diplomatic ties between Rwanda and Senegal.He emphasized the enduring partnership between the two nations and their shared values of peace and progress.
