Sunday Group A APR FC 2-1 Gorilla FC Group B Rayon Sports FC 1-0 Gasogi United Defending champions, APR and Rayon Sports registered their first win of the Primus National League after beating Gorilla FC and Gasogi United respectively on Sunday, May 2. APR beat Gorilla FC 2-1 at Huye Stadium to start defending the league title on a perfect note. Before the match, Adil Mohamed Erradi and his boys were crowned champion of the 2019-2021 season, in a celebration ceremony held minutes before the game. Midfielder Keddy Nsanzimfura gave the army side the lead after 14 minutes of the game before striker Innocent Nshuti extended the lead six minutes later. Jean Claude Nizeyimana scored a consolation goal for the league newcomers in the 80 minutes but failed to push for a draw only for the game to end in APR’s favor. Meanwhile, striker Ernest Sugira scored Rayon Sports’ lone and winning goal against Gasogi United during a tight-lipped encounter held at Amahoro Stadium. Both teams were tied on a goalless draw of the 90 minutes of normal time, with the former side’s attack pushing for a goal only to see Gasogis defenders too difficult to penetrate. Gasogi hoped to share the spoils until Sugira went through Gasogis defense blind, scoring the last-minute goal that earned the Blues all three points. APR will be hoping to progress to the knockout stages of the league, which is being played under a new format, when on Wednesday, March 5, they visit AS Muhanga whose opening game against Bugesera FC was postponed after 10 of the club’s players contracted coronavirus. Rayon, on the other hand, play Kiyovu SC who will be without head coach Oliver Karekezi after his contract was terminated due to breaching covid-19 guidelines.
