AFRO-POP SINGER Alyn Sano is flying to Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Sunday ahead of The Voice Afrique Francophone finale scheduled for April 24-May 1. The Voice Afrique Francophone, which is in its third season, is the French-speaking African version of the reality singing competition ‘The Voice’. The music contest was initially hosted in Johannesburg last year but the Covid-19 outbreak prompted organisers to suspend it to a later date. Prior to resuming, the contest now shifts to Abidjan following a travel ban imposed on South Africa due to the new Coronavirus variant. She is the lone Rwandan among the 12 finalists who are vying for an accolade of this year’s The Voice Afrique following a great performance during the competition’s battles held in January last year. At the very beginning, the singer was among the six Rwandan artistes who represented the country in the competition. The winner of The Voice Afrique will receive a cash prize (Grand Prix), as well as the release of a debut single and music video. Sano told The New Times that she is only targetingthe prize ahead of the grand finale. “I am ready for the challenge,” she said. Every season, four coaches train singers from across the continent and occasionally perform with them. The competitors are selected in auditions where the coaches listen to the auditioning contestant without watching them. The competition comprises five editions including, the blinds, battles, knock-outs, semi-finals and the finale.
