Former Amavubi skipper Haruna Niyonzima has completed a sensational return to Rayon Sports after 17 years. He reportedly agreed to a one-year deal until June 2025. The club announced Niyonzima’s signing on Tuesday, July 15. He joined the Blues as a free agent after his contract with Libyan side Al Ta’awon expired on June 30. “Rayon Sports are thrilled to welcome back Haruna Niyonzima...This humble man brings both skill and experience!” the club announced on its X account. The veteran midfielder rejoins the club he played for between 2006 and 2007 when he signed from boyhood club Etincelles FC. After just one season, he left for arch rivals APR FC. He joins a club of familiar faces like former AS Kigali teammate Olivier Niyonzima and club skipper Kevin Muhire and new signing Fitina Omborenga with whom they played together in the national team. Born in Rubavu, Niyonzima is the most capped player for Rwanda with 110 international caps. He previously played for Etincelles APR and AS Kigali in Rwanda, Simba and Yanga in Tanzania, and Al Ta’awon in Libya.
