The national under-20 women volleyball team together with their Egyptian counterparts will represent Africa in the upcoming 2021 (FIVB) World Championships due July 9 through 18. The tournament is expected to take place in both the Netherlands and Belgium. The development was confirmed by the International Volleyball federation (FIVB) on Thursday, March 18. At the global scene, only nine African teams will be participating in the tournament. The teams are classified in different age categories. The male categories include U-21, U-19 while the female category includes U-18 as well as U-20. Following the move, CAVB Board of Administration members recommended the National Federations of Rwanda, Cameroon, Egypt, Morocco and Nigeria for the qualification of their respective teams to FIVB World Championships, citing that the teams must readily register to be able to participate. In 2018, Rwanda qualified for the world championships after they finished second at the Africa Women’s U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. This led to the country’s first appearance at the World Championship tournament in 2019. This year’s competition will see the country appear twice in the tournament in a span of three years.
