SOUTHERN PROVINCE RUHANGO — the Imbuto Foundation has rewarded another group of foster mothers in the Ruhango District, for being exemplary parents to vulnerable children within society. The award ceremony was held in Mbuye sector on Thursday and presided over by Celestin Twagirumukiza, the Ruhango mayor, on behalf of the First Lady Jeannette Kagame. The foundation has since 2007 rewarded a total of 90 Rwandans countrywide and similar functions were held in Muhanga and Karongi districts recently. Each of the foster parents in Ruhango was rewarded with a heifer, worth Rwf.200,000- as a sign of honour, friendship and growth offered by the First Lady-for adopting and caring for foster children unconditionally. The beneficiaries appreciated the rewards. They narrated the tribulations and other challenges they encountered while at the same time informing would be foster mothers that taking up such a task is actually a higher calling. One Pascalina Uwimana explained the ordeal of adopting a 2 year old girl-born of a mother with mental disability. She said that: “the reason why the child has grown up is because of being such as concerned foster mother and for me it is actually the case of being able to recognize the fact the life of every child becomes a priority for all adults.” The Mayor of Ruhango urged parents to emulate the examples of the foster parents who were rewarded and protect children from HIV/Aids infection and all kinds of sexual violence and bestow a good foundation of education to all children in the district.
