After failing to qualify for the next round of the CAF Confederation tournament, AS Kigali Football Club Coach Andre Casa Mbungo has now turned focus to the Rwanda Premier League. AS Kigali will face Mukura Victory Sports on October 22. The club was eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup by Al Nasr of Libya after being beaten 1-0, thanks to the lone goal from Abdelsalam Alaquob in the 69th minute, ending Mbungo’s hope to reach the final round. Mbungo who was frustrated with his side’s elimination said “focus has now shifted to the league” where they want “to try and gain maximum points so that we can push ahead to win the title and Peace Cup so that we can feature in the CAF games next year.” He said that they are still disappointed with the failure to progress further in the CAF Confederation Cup, but they want to forget that and focus on getting maximum points as they seek good form in the league. “Confederation cup elimination was a disappointment,” when asked why local clubs like AS Kigali fail to progress to the next stages, “Casa replied, “It is a general problem for our clubs and we need to set the plans, targets so that we can get to the top level in Africa, and what I can say is that the challenges are so many.” He noted that he will now have to concentrate on the league in order to win this year’s national league. The coach has a serious battle ahead against Mukura on October 26 before facing Gasogi United on October, 30 at Kigali Stadium. AS Kigali has two postponed matches against champions APR and Rayon Sports. Rayon Sports are leading the table with 12 points after four rounds, followed by Gasogi United with 10 points.
