The successor for the reigning Miss Supranational Rwanda Shanita Umunyana will finally be announced during the virtual grand finale slated for February 27, live on TV1 Rwanda. Organised on the Rwandan chapter by Supra Family Rwanda Ltd, the annual beauty contest is seen as a good opportunity for Rwandan women to showcase their beauty, culture, and talent to the rest of the world. The event finale was initially expected to take place on January 1, 2021 however it was rescheduled after the government imposed movement restrictions between districts while Kigali was also put into a three-week lockdown due to the spike in Covid-19 infections and death toll since December last year. A big part of this year’s Miss Supranational contest in Rwanda will therefore be held virtually to respect preventive measures against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Contestants were expected to compete for the crown in five crucial challenges including humanitarian project development, social media influencing, debates and public speaking, entrepreneurship and fashion challenge. However, the fashion challenge wasn’t considered given that contestant couldn’t do it from home. Eight were selected from eleven contestants who were vying for the 2020 Miss Supranational Rwanda crown and on Saturday, February 13, progressed to the grand finale slated for February 27. They include one contestant with the highest number of votes, the most performing contestant in the social media influencing stage, while six remaining contestants were selected based on the overall activities related to the beauty contest as well as zoom interview from the panel of judges. The finalists include Princess Urusaro, Denyse Uwase, Carine Umugwaneza, Charlene Ineza, Sandra Mushimiyimana, Anitha Umuratwa, Claire Uwingabe and Grace Munezero. Before the grand finale, contestants will gather for a two-day boot camp slated for 25-26 during which they will be trained in choreography to be performed during the grand finale. The winner of this year’s edition will, apart from the crown, walk away with a cash prize of Rwf1 million. She will also win a ticket to represent Rwanda at the Miss Supranational Global 2021 that will be held in September next year in Poland.
