WESTERN PROVINCE KARONGI — Head teachers in all schools in Karongi District are scheduled to hold talks with their students before the genocide commemoration week kicks off. The talks will involve the awareness of their role in fighting against the genocide ideology in their respective schools. Speaking in a security meeting, the district mayor, Bernard Kayumba reiterated that such talks are vital to the well being of the students. He said that the talks will help reduce the dangers of trauma that some students have been undergoing during and after the commemoration week. ‘All head teachers should meet with students before they depart for their holidays. They should also discuss with them issues regarding the preparations concerning the commemoration. It is a highly emotional event. So we need to handle this with utmost care,’ he said. The mayor called for an increase in the number of anti-genocide ideology clubs in schools, saying students will act better than the older generation in fighting the problem. Ends
