NORTHERN PROVINCE The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya has called for full support for the vulnerable children and warned against creating ghost beneficiaries. ‘We are going to hunt down all persons involved in creating ghost beneficiaries, because there are those who have turned it into some form of business, at the expense of the needy children,’ Mujawamariya said. The Minister said this after opening a two day retreat aimed at reviewing the progress on the implementation of 2009 ministerial action plan. The retreat attended MIGEPROF and its partners was held in Ishema hotel in Musanze district. It also involved district officers in charge of gender and family promotion. The retreat also touched on the challenges centered around children’s and even women’s livelihoods. During the retreat the minister received a report indicating that over 245 secondary school going children, had failed to go back to school in Burera district this year. In response the minister said that the concerned ministries should help address the problem. The deliberations also focused on how different partners are set to implement their programs for this year. The retreat which is the third of its kind, was supported by UNICEF. It also evaluated the cross cutting issues affecting children and family welfare. Ends
