Canal Plus Rwanda has announced it will broadcast the CHAN 2020 tournament at an affordable price of Rwf5,000. The development was announced by Sophie Tchatchoua, the Managing Director of Canal Plus Rwanda during an interview with The New Times on Monday, January 18. Canal Plus Rwanda is a subsidiary of Canal Plus International. It is a key player in Rwanda’s visual and audio industry. Launched in November 2020, Canal Plus Rwanda seeks to enhance the country’s arts including movies, sports, music while enabling them reach wider audiences across the African continent and globally. To accomplish this, Tchatchou says, they have proposed the best content for 2021 which the Rwandan audience can enjoy at an affordable price. “Starting with the CHAN, Canal Plus will broadcast all the matches. At only Rwf5,000, people will be able to follow Amavubi, the national football team,” she said. “This is the first gift that we have for our clients, and more to come. But we don’t have just the CHAN, we have got the best sport offers starting with football, NBA and the other sports events.” Tchatchou explained that the current Covid-19 crisis, which is characterised by lockdowns, has increased the demand for entertainment content. “Canal Plus is not just about sports. It’s also about Cinema. We have also proposed content for young kids including cartoon network, as well as educational. In the context of Covid-19, it is critical that parents learn with their children while ensuring their health.” To promote local content, she pointed out that Canal Plus Rwanda has about nine local channels with different content. “Making this affordable is to ensure no one is left behind. We know that some packages might be expensive for some people, but with Rwf5,000 the ambition is to make sure that every household has the opportunity to experience the content we provide.” Besides Ikaze bouquet which costs Rwf5,000 as monthly subscription, she added that others on the market include Zamuka, which costs Rwf10,000, “Zamuka na Siporo” which goes for Rwf20,000 and “Ubuki” bouquet worth Rwf30,000 and has all channels. 2021 ambitions As part of efforts to grow on the Rwanda scene, Tchatchou unveiled plans to establish a new call centre that will facilitate timely information and guidance to all Canal Plus clients. “We look forward to establish a made in Rwanda call centre at the end of the month. The new service call centre is to make sure that Rwandans get information from fellow Rwandans so that we prevent the norm of inquiring help from outside the country. We will launch this soon,” she said. Similarly, “We are here to stay, develop and grow. Since we launched the activity we have created at least 100 jobs both direct and indirect. And we envision more jobs given the new services being.”
