SOUTHERN PROVINCE RUHANGO — Private sector operatives and farmers in Musanze district have been urged to venture into cassava production as a way of responding to the new policy on land consolidation. The call was made by Winfred Mpembyemungu, the Musanze vice mayor in charge of economic affairs during an agricultural study tour in Ruhango district on March 22. The Musanze team was received by Ruhango district leaders, who toured over 50 hectares of various cassava plantations in Ntongwe sector. Catherine Mukayire, the Ruhango vice mayor told Musanze leaders that cassava is commonly known as the ‘Gold of the southern province’ that has transformed farmers lives. The visiting team appreciated the exemplary farming being undertaken in areas they visited. In response Musanze leaders said that, ‘the tour is meaningful for both districts are now in a position to exchange modern agricultural techniques and to encourage their respective residents to introduce mutually beneficial trade initiatives” said Mpembyemungu.
