Rwanda’s rock gospel band, Beauty for Ashes has been family for Olivier Kavutse, since he founded it in 2010. Soon after they commenced, the band grew in leaps and bounds to claim accolades and successfully organize music youth conferences across the region. But over the last few years, band members have since taken up additional responsibilities, including raising families that the gospel band was repurposed into an evangelistic organization that formed the Prayer House Youth evangelism platform. Before the pandemic disrupted everything last year, the members had plans for a concert that would announce their break, but they hope to stage one this year. In the meantime, Kavutse, who is currently living in Canada with his family, has seized the opportunity to launch his solo career. “I have a lot of songs in the pipeline, so I cannot leave my talent hanging, or leave those songs unreleased, because every song is a testimony and there is always a person who gets blessed in that song,” he commented in an exclusive with The New Times. The father of two was also quick to add that his career will not be limited to only gospel songs: “ I also plan to sing other music that can impact the lives of people. I will focus on messages that help those who are heartbroken, desperate and hopeless, but not for commercial purposes. Outing his new single To launch his solo music venture, Kavutse released a new song, ‘Sawa Sawa’, with the Afrofusion Gospel artist Ratajah. In his song, the 35-year-old details of the prophecy he received that despite the hurdles brought about by 2020, Christians should have hope. “Hang on, hold tight, even if all the doors might look closed, even if it might look like nothing is going to work out, God is faithful and something good is going to take place,” he concludes. He keeps on adding that the message of this song was to ask people not to dwell on the hardships of 2020, but to be optimistic for 2021 as long as one still has a breath. “Those who are tired are no longer breathing, anyone still breathing is a candidate for any opportunity on earth”.
