The Ministry of Health on Sunday, December 27 announced that 103 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Huye Prison. Last month, prisons became among the country’s major hotspot of Covid-19 positive cases, after claiming more than 12 lives and registering more than 200 cases in less than a month. At the time, the majority of the cases were registered in Rwamagana Prison, Nyarugenge Prison and Muhanga Prison, and a few weeks later, cases were also reported in Rusizi and Musanze Prisons. Besides new infections reported in Huye Prison on Sunday, some Covid-19 cases were also confirmed in Kigali where 39 people tested positive for the virus and four in Musanze district among others. Kayonza and Rubavu districts also reported two Covid-19 cases each, whereas Gicumbi, Burera and Nyagatare districts confirmed a single positive case each. Meanwhile, on the same day, two men aged 96 and 61, respectively, succumbed to Covid-19 in Rwanda. This raised the countrys Covid-19 death toll to 74. 11 of these died this week. All results were obtained from 2,502 sample tests taken in the last 24 hours. So far, in total, Rwanda has carried out 716, 933 tests.
