Jean Pierre Karabaranga on Tuesday, December 22, presented his letters of credence to President Macky Sall officially becoming Rwanda’s new ambassador to Senegal. This comes after the new Senegalese envoy to Rwanda, Doudou Sow, presented his own credentials to President Paul Kagame last week. Amb. Karabaranga pledged to help expand and deepen mutually beneficial ties between the governments and peoples of both countries. During the credence reception, President Sall promised the new envoy his full support in carrying out his mission with view to further strengthening the existing relations between the two countries. The Senegalese Head of State hailed the leadership of his counterpart, President Kagame, and said he was looking forward to continue working with the Rwandan leader on a wide range of subjects and projects of common interest at both bilateral and the continental levels. Karabaranga had previously served as Rwanda’s envoy to the Netherlands. He was also at the same time the envoy to other countries, namely Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Bulgaria. Karabaranga was replaced by Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe who presented his own letters of credence in November. Besides Senegal, Karabaranga is also accredited to Mali, The Gambia, Cabo Verde, and Guinea Bissau. Rwanda opened an embassy in Senegal in 2011.
