It may be too early to start counting their chickens but Nyirangarama based Sina Gerard Athletics Club look like a team that will yet again pose a threat in this year’s Athletics competitions. “We are re-building a strong team. Building a team sometimes takes a long time but we hope we can get better and better,” Sina Gerald, a businessman behind the popular Akabanga chill said. Recently Sina Gerald Athletic Club signed top athlete Jean Marie Vianney Myasiro. Myasiro races in 3000, 5000, 10000 meters, (21km) and 30 km and has featured for Italian clubs like Mountain Classic AC and Run Love Terni Athletics. “I am somebody who doesn’t get carried away easily with the result of competition. We still have a lot of work to do.” Sina noted Other known athletes that joined the Musanze based club include Cillian Manirafasha who signed from Italy side Atletico Dolomite Delano, Honorine Irabagiza and Felix Uwimana. In total, the club signed up 80 athletes in all categories who will prepare for competitions that include the National Cross Country, World Championship, Francophonie Games, Africa Champions, All African games, Commonwealth and Rwanda Peace Marathon. The club’s head coach Anicet Kanyabugoyi said the club will aim to win major medals in international races next year. “It is good to start the year with big ambitions but it is also a challenge for us because we have other big competitions ahead of us. We are going to keep working hard in order to win more races next year,” Kanyabugoyi said. Sina Gerard Athletics Club was founded in 2018. There are 15 athletics clubs in the country and they include; APR, Nyamasheke, Rwamagana, Nyaruguru, Rutsiro, Burera, Huye, Mountain Classic, SEC Academy, Vision Jeunesse Athletics Club, New Athletics Stars (NAS), Gasore Foundation Athletics Club, and Kamonyi Athletics Club.
