Gicumbi District residents have called on Liberal Party (PL) parliamentary aspirants to advocate for the increase of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools in every sector across the country. The request was made during a Liberal Party campaign event in Gicumbi District. ALSO READ: Rwanda Decides: 12 Key Pledges in Liberal Party’s Five-Year Manifesto The party, which has 54 parliamentary aspirants, also supports RPF-Inkotanyi's candidate, incumbent President Paul Kagame, in the presidential race. Youth need TVET to be able to create their own jobs. For example, tailoring helps a lot of women and men in both rural and urban areas, said Diane Nyiramahirwe, a Gicumbi resident. The government aims to increase job creation by enrolling at least 60 percent of students in TVET programs. This requires building enough TVET classrooms to accommodate the 60 percent of Nine Years Basic Education level graduates. There is a need for a TVET school in each of the 416 sectors across the country. We are set to vote for PL as its parliamentary aspirants have pledged to help with reducing the unemployment rate, added Emmanuel Basabose, another resident. TVET in agriculture and animal resources is needed, he said. Donatille Mukabalisa, President of the Liberal Party, also emphasized the need for increased efforts in job creation, particularly by encouraging more youth to embrace TVET programs. “We have to continue striving for good governance. Our manifesto is looking at satisfying Rwandans’ needs,” she said. The party has pledged to advocate for boosting the private sector, SMEs, and women's development. “We want to see more jobs created for youth and women. There is a need for setting up SMEs and helping them grow,” she said.
