Children at the World Aids Day Poster Contest

Last Sunday children between 5 to 20 years of age won different prizes after participating in the ‘World Aids Day Poster Contest.’ This was at the United States of America’s embassy. The theme of the contest was ‘Celebrate life.’ Young people were encouraged to fight against HIV/Aids through self-expression. In the 5 to 9 age group, Fatimah Laissa Umutesiwase from Ecole International de Kigali was the 1st, 2nd was Valentine Njanga from Remera Academy and 3rd was Nancy Umutoni from Kigali Parents. In the 10 to 15 age group, Herve Shema Banyangiliki from Lycee de Kigali was 1st, followed by Jeannette Uwase from Gafunzo Primary School and 3rd was Sandrine Nkunzemariya from Green Hills Academy. In the 16 to 20 age group, Joseph Mukiza from Ecole d’ Art de Nyundo was 1st, followed by Yousouf Nshimyimana from Ecole Secondaire Scientifique Islamique de Nyamirambo and 3rd was Levi Ndayizeye from Gafunzo Primary School. The top three winners in each age group received a certificate signed by the U.S Ambassador and a backpack full of scholastic and art materials. With other winners from around the world, each child in the 1st position will have their posters displayed as part of the ‘Celebrate Life’ exhibit in Washington DC. Ends
