Editorial: Nurture your talents

Just last week a number of children portrayed skills in drawing at the World Aids Portrait Contest. This was at the US Embassy in Kacyiru. One thing I have noticed is that so many children have so much material to read however they lack the initiative to do so. As the saying goes; ‘You can not teach an old dog new tricks’ the same is true with people. The older one grows the harder it is to learn new skills. Still with young, fresh minds children can step forth and make use of all that brain mass that is still unexplored. The brain has the capacity to store more information than a computer with the largest Giga-bytes. However the skill of drawing has to be developed through practice. The more you draw the better you become. Whatever knowledge you discover through reading you can share it through drawing so that it does not remain with you. This is how our fore fathers passed on the knowledge they knew from generation to generation. Every child can therefore make drawing a hobby. In this way you become a better artist as time goes by.
