Although he passed on, the late Jamaican Reggae star Bob Marley’s music legacy still lingers on. Jésus -Fleury Nsabimana is one of the many people that were and are still enthused by the legendry’s music. The 29-year-old loved singing ever since childhood but he advanced his passion for music each time he listened to Bob Marley’s music. It is through his experience that he practiced with his talent more that with time, he learned how to play the guitar and piano. In 2019, the Gisenyi based artiste, decided to start his own band known as “Groove band”, which has been performing karaoke and all genres of music.in bars. The band that had started picking up and making some money however, almost went back to zero when Covid-19 hit, as they couldn’t perform anymore. Luckily though, they resorted to performing in restaurants in Gisenyi from Friday to Sunday from 3 pm to 8 pm, to earn a living. “Although, nowadays people are captivated by the band’s music especially at events, like weddings, a lot of energy for rehearsals is required, and its time-consuming-which calls for a committed team,” Nsabimana noted. He carried on that becoming successful as a band also requires leadership skills. For instance, collaborating with others to create music needs skills to express one’s opinion, take constructive feedback and learn how to progress with a team. For him, maintaining social media accounts to connect with their fans, keeps them moving. In the short period, he has spent in the band and heading the band, he has come to learn that creativity is key. For example, turning an idea into something tangible that will assist the band to grow bigger and stronger. When asked why he decided to focus on live band, he responded that it is because it produces better sound quality for dancing and socializing and therefore rare for the audience to get bored. According to the artiste, band music allows the arrangement that fits any event theme, takes people’s requests, and there is no doubt that the band’s reputation can also influence the success of an event. Nsabimana and his two colleagues have hopes of writing and producing their own songs in the future.
