All people were evacuated safely after a fire incident happened at Makuza Peace Place in Kigali’s Central Business District on Wednesday, July 3, according to Rwanda National Police (RNP). The fire broke out in one section of the first floor around 7:30 AM, leading to the response by RNP’s Fire and Rescue Brigade. ALSO READ: Police responds to fire incident at Makuza Peace Plaza “The Fire and Rescue Brigade responded swiftly and managed to put out the fire before spreading to other parts of the floor and building,” RNP Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Boniface Rutikanga, said. “All people were evacuated safely with no harm and experts are still establishing the cause of the fire.” The fire affected three shops dealing in electronics, spectacles and curtains, operating in the affected section of the building, the Police said. Rutikanga urged Rwandans to abide by safety standards in order to avoid similar incidents. “We call upon owners of buildings, tenants and the general public to always take precautionary measures against fire, avoid any reckless practices that can lead to fire emergency and promptly call the Fire and Rescue Brigade to contain the situation and to prevent destruction of property and loss of lives,” he said.
