At 20, Sarah Murungi has her mind set on doing things that impact the entire continent. This year, she started producing “Goal’d In Africa”, a podcast that is aimed at changing the lives and mindsets of Africans. Through the podcast platform that is free of charge, she interviews influential people from different African countries whose stories are aimed at inspiring the youth and empowering them to think outside the box. Murungi looks forward to informing, empowering, and guiding young Africans wherever they are to go out, get any skill and become great in anything that they are capable of and push for collective success. “Our main focus is to be as diverse as possible. Our audience comprises 30 countries. The guests so far have been from Rwanda, Kenya, Benin, Botswana, and Nigeria. We have interviewed people from different professions, for example, counseling, videography, education, banks, among others between 20 to 35 years of age. More diversity and value is yet to come” she noted. Murungi stressed that the reason as to why she focuses on diversity is so that Africans wherever they are, can see their potential careers and dreams being lived up, and so can have hope that they too can achieve these dreams. So all in all, this is to promote the representation of these dreams. She also said that on top of generating a wide collection of African stories and taking charge of the African narrative, the listeners are not only learning about the inner workings of the different cultures and economies, but also learning what role they play and how collectively, they can be successful in their respective countries and to Africa as a whole. Murungi hosts solo episodes mainly centered on personal development and the interview episodes are more so targeted towards professional development. The entrepreneur reaches out to the guests either through mutual contacts or one-on-one using Goal’d in Africa’s social media. In the few months of existence, she has already managed to accumulate so much representation in terms of audience and guests, which was one of the main objectives of creating the platform. “As for my purpose of educating and inspiring Africans to live out their full potential, which will mostly be seen as long-term. We have received a lot of messages from people changing their mindset and believing that also Africans can do great things-have great education and good jobs, basing on the interviews and motivation heard on the platform,” she stated. Her aim is to lift up voices of other determined or successful Africans and through that, barriers and stereotypes to pursue professional dreams, will be broken.
