Nominations for the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) 2020, which celebrates musical works, talents, and creativity around the African continent, were revealed recently. Representing Rwanda on the nominees’ list this year are The Ben and Sherrie Silver, who were nominated for Best Male East Africa, and Best African Dancer respectively. Sherrie, 26, is a UK-based Rwandan professional choreographer, renowned in Childish Gambino’s famous “This is America.” She is also the rural youth advocate for the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), while The Ben is arguably one of Rwanda’s top R&B/pop acts. The Ben, who recently signed a Rwf42 million deal with TECNO Mobile as the brand ambassador, will battle out for the music awards with some of Africa’s music superstars Ethiopian singer Gildo Kassa, Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Khaligraph Jones and Otile Brown (both Kenya) as well as bongo musicians Mbosso, Harmonize, Diamond Platnumz and Ali Kiba (all from Tanzania). Meanwhile, Sherrie Silver will face stiff competition for the coveted prize from La Petite Zota (Ivory Coast), Masaka Kids Africana (Uganda), Bajuni and Rabbit Crew 255 (both from Tanzania), Neru Americano and Scro Que cuia (Angola) as well as Poco Lee, Papi Ojo, Sayrah Chips and Kora Obidi (all from Nigeria). Voting is now open to the public via www.afrimma.com. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on November 15 in Dallas, Texas, United States.
