Did you know that someone can live for 40 days without food, but cannot live for 72 hours without water? This week on the 22nd of March, everyone will be celebrating the World Water Day. This day is important because no one can ever imagine living without water. We all need water to drink, to cook food, to wash and clean our bodies as well as the places we live in. It’s not only people who need water to live. Even animals and plants need water to stay alive. As you read this issue, you will read of a young Rwandan boy who looks after cows in his village in Mutara. He said that during the dry season when all the water ponds and grass dry, he with other herdsmen walk long distances looking for water and fresh grass. This simply means that without water everything cannot stay alive. The ponds dry, the grass dries and there is no food for the animals to eat. We should remember to appreciate and protect our water sources. These are lakes and rivers. People can also help in rainfall formation. When people do not cut down trees, then we receive rain from the clouds. Everyone and everything needs water to live. Water is life. Ends
