The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Rwanda have crossed the 4000 mark. According to an update issued by the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) on Sunday evening, the total number of people that have contracted the virus in the country now stands at 4,020. 177 new cases were recorded out of the 5,544 tests that were carried out on Sunday. Of the new cases, 170 were detected in Kigali markets which have for about the last two weeks been the new epicenter of infections in the country. 5 other cases were registered from Rusizi, while two were from Rubavu in the Western Province. Rwanda’s current number of recovered patients is 1918 (representing 48 percent of the total number of confirmed cases), while the active cases are 2086. A total of 16 people have died in connection to the virus ever since the first case was reported on Rwandan soil in March this year. Meanwhile, Rwanda is looking at new solutions to deal with the pandemic. Among these, RBC is rolling out home-based care for Covid-19 patients, a move that will see some patients isolated and treated in their homes if they fulfil the necessary requirements. The system will be for asymptomatic patients or those with mild symptoms. Home-based care also has other conditions which the patient’s home must fulfil to be deemed worthy for hosting the patient without pausing an extra risk of infections.
