Rwanda on Thursday, July 9, reported 16 new Covid-19 cases and 13 recoveries. Of the new cases, according to the statement of the Ministry of Health, seven were from Rusizi, four from Kirehe, one from Ngoma and the other four from Kigali. The new figures brought the tally of active cases to 584, taking the overall recovery count to 623. Among the total of 1,210 total confirmed cases, only three have succumbed to the virus. Since mid-march when Covid-19 was first confirmed in the country, Rwanda has so far conducted over 172,362 sample tests of Covid-19, of which 3,463 were conducted in the last 24 hours. As early detection of the virus is one of the effective measures to keep the virus at bay, Rwanda has scaled up its testing capacity.
