RWANDA athletics federation have until now failed to name the team that will take part in this year’s World Cross Country Championship set for March 28 in Amman, Jordan. But the federation’s Secretary General, Appollinaire Munyangoga said yesterday that the team will be named over the weekend before they start residential training on March 16. “The technical committee named team but we have to sit as the federation’s executive committee to make our last review on it before,” Munyangoga said. Munyangoga confirmed that they plan to send an eight-man team to the Amman World Cross Country Championship. The team will be made comprised of five boys and three girls. It’s a week tomorrow after the national trials championship was held to select the team for the World event due in 15 days’ time; Rwanda will still face difficulties in trying to beat the world’s finest at the distance for the top spot. The leading athlete Dieudonne Disi won the trials event held at Kigali Golf Club course last weekend but will not be part of the team for the Amman race as he is preparing for the Paris marathon due on April 5. Disi, 28 clocked 37:31:60 to come ahead of Jean Baptista Simuceka, who used 37:32:86 to finish in second position. Gervais Hakizimana finished third in 37:41:82. Claudette Mukasakindi won the women 8km category after clocking 27:19:40 beating her more experienced rival Epiphanie Nyirabarame into second in 28:37:15. Genesse Nyirahabimana clocked 38:45:96 to finish third. In the women junior category, Adeline Musabyeyezu won the 6km race in a time of 21:24 while Jackline Murekatete came second in 21:26 and Jean d’Arc Mukakigeri finished in third position after clocking 21:40.
