World Vision donates 10,000 books

EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — The World Vision has donated 10,000 books to Umutara Polytechnic in Nyagatare district. The books were handed over on Tuesday by the World Vision’s programme coordinator Joy Gatera, who said the donation was in line with their policy to support institutions provide quality education. “It is related to many activities the organisation carries out in other institutions. We hope it will be of help to the university; as they upscale education programmes they should have enough books which are key to quality education,” Gatera noted. Gatera explained that the World Vision supports education because it is the main pillar in poverty reduction in the country. “That is why we partner and do a lot in education. If schools need to keep partnering with us the doors are open, as long as it fits in our strategic direction as an organisation,” she pointed out. Receiving the books, the Director of Umutara Polytechnic, Philip Brierley said: “It is an important gift from World Vision, a gift of text books, which will help in education and training of our students.” Brierley stressed that the donation was a big boost to their library, especially in the department of Agriculture and engineering. He added: “We always need text books, but I think we need them for the new programmes we are working on, to be introduced soon.” The World Vision gave out similar donation to Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) recently.
