The local football governing body (Ferwafa) will extend relief donations of foodstuff to vulnerable players and technical staff from teams across all the league divisions amid the Covid-19 crisis. According to officials, the donation exercise will start with small teams and Ferwafa is open to partnerships with private corporates so more members can be reached. The livelihood of many players, coaches and supporting staff in domestic football has been disrupted following the shutdown of sports activities in March. The 2019-20 Rwanda Premier League season has since been declared over, with APR crowned champions as they held a six-point lead before the league was suspended on March 15. By press time Friday, Ferwafa was yet to determine how and when the donations would be distributed as there was scheduled a meeting – via video conference – to make the decision with representatives of all its 54 member clubs and associations. Rwanda FA last month received $500,000 (Rwf475 million) from the world football body, Fifa, and is set to receive $200,000 (Rwf187 million) from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) this month.
