OXFAM GB joins GBV fight

OXFAM Great Britain (OXFAM GB) has commended the government’s efforts to promote gender equality in leadership and the country’s dedication to end gender based violence and in improving the economic empowerment of women. In a statement released to the press during the International women’s day celebrations in Nyagatare yesterday, OXFAM GB vowed to promote gender equality not only in leadership but also trying to end gender based violence. OXFAM called on everyone to go beyond women day celebrations, to join efforts in fighting gender based violence. The organization noted that keeping silent about gender based violencecases would jeopardize government efforts to reduce poverty. In the release, OXFAM GB pointed out that violence against women and poverty do interact, that poor households are more vulnerable to violence. OXFAM GB expressed it attitude towards women as “we put women at the heart of everything we do” This they stated to be the basis of their “Lets talk campaign” and “Women Can Campaign” this campaigns ideal is that women should be given a chance to participate equally with men. The organization expressed that it is concerned with gender inequality because most of the world’s poor are women. To address this inequality OXFAM GB called on everyone to integrate gender issues into all aspects of their work through programs that are aimed at reducing gender based violence. Ends
